Spelling, punctuation, syntax, grammar
Spelling errors and punctuation errors such as misplaced commas, unnecessary capital letters, incorrectly used quotation marks, parentheses, and so on, will be corrected directly in the document using Track Changes.
Whichever type of English you choose - British, American, or Oxford English - I will make sure all vocabulary is harmonised throughout your document(s) to avoid mixing spellings.
Where there are problems with word order, verb forms, tenses, prepositions, etc., these will be corrected directly in the text using Track Changes.
Clarity & structure
If I feel that sentences in a paragraph would make better sense in a different order, or that the writer's choice of connecting words (although, however, thus, therefore, despite, etc.) is sending the reader in the wrong direction, I will make changes to ensure that each paragraph has a clear flow of ideas.
Clarity of meaning and argumentation is a priority.
If necessary, I will use the comment function in order to draw your attention to any issues and to suggest possible remedies.
Redundancy
Redundancy is repetition that serves no useful purpose. Whilst you may sometimes need to repeat your point in order to highlight a key idea or finding, it is important to avoid redundancy.
English is a language that is both expressive and concise - redundancy can be avoided through careful choice of synonyms, good structure, and careful editing.
I aim to make to make your text as concise and elegant as possible.
Accompanying letters, Responses to editors
I am also happy to check accompanying letters/responses to editors to ensure that the language is of the same high standard as the article or research paper itself.
It's important that you reply very clearly to each of the points or suggestions made by the reviewers.
I will check that your answers are clear, well-structured and that you have followed the expectations of the journal or publication you wish to submit to.
Reference lists & Bibliographies
I do not check or format your reference list or bibliography and this section will not be counted when I calculate my quote.
Within the main body of your text, if I see that in-text citations contain small errors, such as misplaced commas or colons, or that a page number has been forgotten for a quotation, I will correct these errors myself where possible or highlight them for you to correct later.
Any accessible text attached to/contained within footnotes, tables, graphics, and images will be checked and corrected.
